Croatia and Slovenia Smart Gas Grid Project on the EU PCI–PMI list

Last week the new PCI-PMI list was published through the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/764, determining the Union list of projects of common interest and projects of mutual interest.

We are pleased to announce that the joint project of Plinacro and Plinovodi - Croatia and Slovenia smart gas grid project under no. 14.2 has been included on the List within the priority thematic area “Smart gas grids”.

The project has been focused on the development of advance, digitalized and interoperable gas infrastructure, including the modernization of gas nodes and the implementation of advanced management, measurement and control systems. Special emphasis is placed on enabling the reception and mixing of decarbonized gases such as hydrogen and biomethane and reducing methane emissions and the overall carbon footprint of the transmission system.

Within the project the implementation of smart technologies has been planned, including sensor systems, gas flow and quality management devices, and an integrated monitoring and control system, which will enable more efficient and secure management of the gas system. The project also envisages the adjustment of key interconnection points and strengthening cross-border cooperation, with the aim of developing the market for hydrogen and other decarbonized gases.

Inclusion on the PCI-PMI list confirms the strategic importance of the project for the energy transition and further strengthens the cooperation between Croatia and Slovenia in the development of a sustainable and resilient energy system.
