Plinovodi and Plinacro signed the joint statement on increasing the capacity of the gas interconnection between Slovenia and Croatia

The capacity increase will provide Slovenia and the wider region with a more reliable gas supply and access to additional gas sources from Croatia, including the LNG terminal on the island of Krk. The joint statement represents an important step towards greater energy connectivity, security of supply and resilience of energy systems in the region.
 
Ljubljana, 20 May 2026 - the gas transmission system operators of Slovenia and Croatia - Plinovodi d.o.o. and Plinacro Ltd. -signed the joint statement on increasing the capacity of the Rogatec interconnection in the direction from Croatia to Slovenia today in Ljubljana.
 

 
The upgrade of the gas pipeline system in Croatia will enable the transmission of larger volumes of gas between the two countries and further strengthen Slovenia’s energy connectivity with the region. This will increase the security of supply, the resilience of energy systems and the stability of the regional energy system.
 
When signing the joint statement, the General Manager of Plinovodi d.o.o., Matija Bitenc, emphasized: “The signing of this statement represents an important step in cooperation between the gas transmission system operators of Slovenia and Croatia and in jointly ensuring a long-term stable, connected and reliable gas supply, as well as the efficient regional functioning of the transmission infrastructure.”
 
President of the Board of Plinacro, Ivica Arar, pointed out: “This joint statement confirms a long-standing successful cooperation between Plinovodi and Plinacro. It is my pleasure to highlight that by constructing the Zabok - Lučko main gas pipeline we enabled the increase in capacity and availability of gas from Croatia, which will additionally enhance the stability of supply for the countries in the region connected by gas transmission systems.”
 
The joint statement also confirms the coordinated cooperation of the two companies in the implementation of all necessary technical, legislative and operational activities for the timely offer of new capacities on the market, in accordance with European legislation and agreements between the operators.
 
After the completion of all gas pipelines financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), that is, the completion of the Bosiljevo - Sisak and Kozarac - Sisak sections, the capacity of the Rogatec interconnection will be able to reach up to 170,000 Sm3/h, starting from 31 December 2026, depending on upstream pressure conditions.
