The Croatian Government has taken a decision on constructing the Zlobin – Bosiljevo gas pipeline and expanding the LNG Terminal capacity

In order to enhance the energy independence of the Republic of Croatia, the Government has taken a decision on constructing the Zlobin – Bosiljevo gas pipeline and expanding the capacity of the LNG Terminal on the island of Krk to 6.1 billion of cubic meters of gas per year. The total value of investment is EUR 180 million, out of which EUR 155 million for the extension of the Plinacro gas pipeline system, and EUR 25 million for the expansion of the LNG Terminal capacity. 


 
“This is a strategic decision because in this way we are doubling the capacity of the LNG Terminal on the island of Krk and commencing a construction of a new gas pipeline to enhance the security of gas supply in the Republic of Croatia as well as to position Croatia as a leader in a new distribution of roles in terms of energy in this part of Europe”, said Economy and Sustainable Development Minister, Davor Filipović, at the Government session. He pointed out that for financing this investment the European money would be used up to the maximum, along with the funds from the state budget.
 
Prime Minister, Andrej Plenković also highlighted that this is a strategic and important decision for the energy security and gas supply of Croatia, emphasizing the importance of Plinacro role as well as the importance of using of the measures from the REPowerEU plan. He assessed that in this way Croatia is becoming a reginal energy hub in terms of a quality use of the LNG terminal.
 
As a national gas transmission system operator, Plinacro continues to work on strengthening energy independence and stability of the Republic of Croatia as well as the central and southeast Europe through the projects of system development and modernisation.
